Nevis!

This past weekend we took our first trip over to our sister island, Nevis. It is a twenty minuet ferry ride, and we brought a car along. When we arrived on Nevis we put two gallons of gas in the car, and that was enough to get us around the island 2.5 times!!! Mostly on a quest to find a little piece of American History, and a good lunch...both of which were accomplished. As you can see we visited the birthplace of Alexander Hamilton.
Here I am on the ferry, just leaving St. Kitts, that is Nevis behind me. Then in the next picture we are on Nevis looking back at St. Kitts.
It was a fun day of exploring! ~Erin

After a full day of household chores, and being a beach bum....it is time for some night fishing! We went to the golf ponds, caught some bait fish and we were set. The fun thing about down here is you do not know what your gonna get. My first cast of the night, before the bait even hit the bottom, I caught a nice Jack. Then fifteen minuets later, I caught an even nicer Jack. Later on I had a huge Tarpon grab my bait, and fly out of the water...but unfortunately he spit it out......Lots of fun....Willie

Fall in St Kitts

Fall is in the air, here in the tropics...It has been raining most of the day, and the high temperature was 77 degrees today...nice and cool, we are enjoying it.
These pictures were taken from our front deck looking down on the Caribbean ocean.

First Dive

I got to go diving for the first time since we have been down here. The water was perfect, warm and clear. Spent the whole time chasing lobsters. Between everyone diving we caught twenty-five keepers. Then we went to a friends house for dinner who showed me how to cook them up, and they were delicious! Willie

School

If anyone had any doubts about the real reason we are here I thought I would add this picture. This is me at school...As you can see between the buildings is the ocean. Not a bad place to go to school...There are no windows in the classrooms, so we do not get distracted. School is going good, my professors are amazing at what they do...It is very rigorous and not easy...but I am already learning alot!!! I better get back to it....Erin

First Fish

Got to go spear fishing today...finally!!!! We snorkeled out around a reef, where we saw an array of beautiful ocean creatures. I shot my first blue runner...This morning's fun, is tonight's dinner!

Shipwreck

During the catamaran trip we got to see more of the damage hurricane Earl caused. Including this ship that got washed ashore.
For our last day of the orientation week, we got to go out on a Catamaran trip. The boat left Port Zante St. Kitts, and went to a secluded cove, only accessible by boat. At the cove we snorkeled and then had lunch.
During our snorkeling adventure we saw two barracudas, a huge jelly fish, and many beautiful reef fish.

St. Kitts Coast Gaurd

This is a St. Kitts Coast Guard vessel that ran out of gas the day before hurricane Earl. The vessel was then washed ashore during the hurricane. I can just hear the conversation on board, "Hey captin do you think we should get some fuel?" " Nah mon we'll do it tomorrow." Life runs at a different pace down here....

There is a mansion on the hill above us. This boat will make it difficult for the owners to get out of their drive way!
This picture was taken from just up the road from our apartment. The bay down there is Timothy Bay, which is where we were swimming yesterday. Needless to say the water is no longer as smooth as glass! Thanks Earl...Willie and Erin.

This gentleman was walking the beach with his fly rod, right where we were swimming. I went over to get some info on the fishing from him. He is from "New Zealand" he enjoys coming to St. Kitts on "Holiday." All he does is wander the beaches fishing while he is here. He reported that there are a lot of fish here! Five minuets later we watched him reel in a fish. I AM DYING TO START FISHING......But Earl had other plans!......Willie
Our first time in the ocean! We are in Timothy bay here, on the caribbean side of the island. The water is crystal clear, warm, and smooth as glass. We were lucky enough to get some beach time in before Earl got here!

Landing in St. Kitts!

We Made it!!!

Well we had a good trip into St. Kitts, no major problems at all with flights, bags, or customs...Our apartment looks just like the pictures, it is clean and in a nice neighborhood. What else do we need?

How fun is it that we get to move to the Caribbean during hurricane season! We have had our first hurricane, Earl. He hit last night as a category 2 (almost a 3)...Overall it was a pretty impressive storm, from what we heard of it. Our apartment is equipped with storm shutters, so we were closed up pretty tight...We meant our neighbor, who lives above us. She is actually the owner of the house we live in. Our apartment is basically the bottom part of the house. She lives alone and Willie helped her a lot last night in preparing for the storm.

The house has survived well, as the worse of Earl is now over. Except we do have a leak by our washer and dryer and have water in our living room...Willie is working on it, it is not too bad:)

Orientation was canceled for today, due to the hurricane. So we start tomorrow! Today has been nice just moving in and getting organized.

Getting Closer

Hello Everyone,

As our first blog we thought we would share some pictures of our new home. Our apartment is in Frigate Bay, St. Kitts. Frigate Bay is seven miles from the campus of Ross University, and is close to many restaurants and hotels. It is a one bedroom, one bathroom apartment. As you can see in the pictures the outside is more impressive than the inside:) Not that we intend to be in our apartment much...most importantly, we are 2-4 blocks from the beach...
We will keep you posted on all the adventures here!
